SOMOS FESTIVAL: FIRST HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL IN LATIN AMERICA BY PEOPLE IN NEED

People in Need in the Latin American carried out its first regional festival in commemoration of the International Human Rights Day (celebrated on December 10), to foster participation and awareness of the defense of human rights in undemocratic countries.
SOMOS festival took place between December 7th and December 10th, 2022, with several screenings and debates that took place in Sala Gómez Miralles of Costa Rica’s National Cinema Center. 210 guests, including the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Christine Pirenne and representatives of the Canadian embassy, enjoyed the screenings of films and documentaries and their subsequent debates.
INTERNATIONAL films
More than 10 films were screened in Centro de Cine, that were selected according to three main themes: exile and migration, feminism and gender and freedom of expression.

Each of the 4 days after the screening, we were joined by experts, ambassadors, film directors & protagonists, defenders of human rights and journalists that pondered on the proposed theme for the day.
